Lets start an airsoft sniper discusion:
Bipods - is not only to beautify your rifle but is used to stabilized your rifle for a shot. You dont really need to use bipods that often. Sometimes leaning your rifle against a tree or rock will do. If you play/crawl/stalk in the underbrush and move often, its best you remove your bipod. As helpful as it can be, it also has its disadvantages.
1. Adds weight
2. Snags a lot
Airsoft recon snipers dont often use bipods. Base snipers do. Difference? Recon snipers travel and move alot more than base snipers. By moving alot doesnt mean you have to be seen. Snipers move differently than assault guys. Movements made is less than what assault guys make.
Alternatives to bipods:
1. Vegetation and Y twigs you see laying around the grounds of your gamesite.
2. Rocks.
3. Your military runt sack.
4. Your sniper veil (tie the two ends of this veil to opposite veggies and viola... you have your rifle catch).
5. Your delta and runt helmets and hats.
6. Your arm
7. Your legs
8. Your team mate/spotter
How to fold bipods - most often, airsoft snipers fold their bipods to the front. This creates a pitch fork effect susceptible to snags. On patrol, fold your bipods to the inside to limit snagging. It isnt pretty to look at, but it helps.
Do not use mags that is so long that it touches the ground even if you have a bi-pod.
Bi-pods are used for long rifles... not submachine gun class weaponry like the MP5 cqb.
Bi-pods are installed near the end of your barrel... not near the middle of your rifle.
Assault rifles dont need bi-pods. Weapons with bi-pods are not built for shoulder slinging. Its a base shooting weapon, your not suppose to carry it that often so no need for slings. Put it on the ground.
Fold your bipods when not using it or in patrol.
Non-fixed rifle rest:
1. single pod - uncommon and is usually used for firing rifles at standing position
2. bipod - most common and are usually used at crouching position
3. tripod - are used for heavy munitions sniper rifles
Fixed rifle rests are normally used for heavy guns such as the m60. These are mounted on top of vehicles such as the humvees. They can also be mounted in different locations.
